A new wine app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch has been launched by wine blogger Miss Bouquet. My Wine Friend offers consumers a platform to build a ‘notebook’ of the wines they’ve been drinking, enjoying – and those they haven’t liked. It allows users to take photos of, write their own tasting notes on, and rate wines using a star system – a tool designed to ultimately help general wine consumers get to know their own wine tastes.

The creator of Miss Bouquet explains: “When I started my blog two years ago, I wanted to write about wine in the way I speak about wine when I’m out and about with friends, not in wine trade talk. The research I’ve done shows that consumers who enjoy wine want to know more about it but they don’t necessarily want to join a wine club, subscribe to a wine magazine or pay to go on a wine course, the app has been designed to reflect that, it’s about the we live now and the way we drink now. People want to get to know what wines they enjoy without interrupting their lives! And I believe My Wine Friend will help consumers achieve that.”

Users simply enter the name of the wine, where they bought it, take a photograph to accompany the entry, categorize it by style (red, white, rosé, sparkling) and score it using 1-5 stars, ultimately building up a picture of their own taste profile.

Miss B continues: “Many consumers simply don’t get the technical, tasting terms used by professionals but with My Wine Friend they don’t have to write complicated tasting notes, they just record what they liked about it in words that mean something to them and refer to it next time they’re feeling lost in the wine aisle or confused by a wine list.”

App users will be invited to share their 5-star wines on www.MissBouquet.com and the My Wine Friend Facebook page each month. The Miss Bouquet Awards are currently in development; a new set of awards, voted for entirely by consumers, where app users will nominate their top-scoring wines and wine retailers for an award.

Postcards publicising the app are available for members of the trade to give to their customers so they can encourage users to download the app and record what wines they’ve bought from their store, wine-e, bar, restaurant or hotel. My Wine Friend is available to download from the iTunes store, priced at 59p.
